The Catholic Lawyers Guild of Kansas City is proud to sponsor annually, in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Kansas City-Kansas and the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, the Red Mass. The Red Mass is a tradition in the Catholic Church that can be traced back to the Cathedral of Paris in 1245. The Mass is traditionally celebrated in the fall, at what was the beginning of the term of court, for judges, prosecutors, attorneys, law students, government officials, law professors and anyone involved in the legal professions. This special time of prayer and blessing asks the Holy Spirit to guide the members of the legal profession in the pursuit of justice and to grant them wisdom to appreciate the great responsibility that comes with this noble profession.
The legal profession in Kansas City, like so many other cities in America and throughout the world, is blessed to have the opportunity to gather together once a year, and pray for God’s blessing upon our profession. We hope that you will consider joining us!
The Red Mass is followed by a reception and, in the years to come, we plan to present the St. Thomas More Award to a member of the legal profession who, like St. Thomas More, stands by his or her Catholic identity and strives for Justice.
